The Community Relations Unit exists to promote a positive relationship between citizens and the Allen Police Department. The unit offers various programs to the public at no cost. Topics include Stranger Danger, Workplace Violence, Neighborhood Watch, Identity Theft, Burglary Prevention, and Check Fraud. The Community Relations Unit also organizes and promotes National Night Out. The unit is part of the Office of the Chief of Police.
The Community Relations Unit operates three storefront locations: Watters Creek, The Village at Allen, and Allen Premium Outlets. These locations provide opportunities to interact with citizens outside police headquarters. Storefront locations are usually open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Citizen Volunteer Efforts The Community Relations Unit operates several volunteer programs, including the Citizen Police Academy. The academy meets one evening a week for twelve weeks. Participants are introduced to traffic-related laws, DWI stops, crime scene investigations, and SWAT and K9 operations. They also participate in various field trips. Graduates of this academy are eligible for further training in two volunteer groups: Citizens On Patrol (COPs) and Volunteers In Policing (VIPs).
